CEB preparation: private tutoring and holiday courses
Is your child sitting the CEB in June 2027? Two ways to prepare, which you can combine:
- small-group holiday courses, 10 pupils at most;
- private tutoring with a coach chosen for your child, at home anywhere in Belgium or online.
Your child works on weak spots, practises with past papers and goes into June with a method and confidence.
Holiday courses or private tutoring: how to prepare for the CEB?
Depending on the time left and your child's needs, choose one or the other, or combine them.
Small-group holiday courses
During the school holidays, a few days in a group of 10 pupils at most cover every CEB subject, with a printed summary and past papers. Taught in French. No registration fee.
Private tutoring
A coach chosen by an educational advisor follows your child week after week, at home anywhere in Belgium or online, on whatever is giving them trouble. From 35 to 40 € per hour depending on the length of the programme, plus a 75 € registration fee per school year and per family.
Both, combined
The holiday course gives an overview of every subject; the coach then works on the weak spots at home. Worth considering as soon as a gap appears, ideally from the second term.
The CEB 2027 at a glance
The CEB (certificat d’études de base) is the external test that closes primary school in French-speaking schools of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. The same questions are set on the same day in every school and marked against the same criteria. The school registers your child.
Pupils sit four tests:
- the French test (reading, writing, listening);
- the maths test ;
- thescience test ;
- thehistory and geography test.
In 2027, the tests take place on Monday 21, Tuesday 22, Thursday 24 and Friday 25 June. The pass mark is going up: pupils need at least 50% in each subject and an overall average of at least 60%.
Preparation built around your child
Going back over weak spots
Fractions, conversions, conjugation, reading maps: the coach spots what has been a struggle since Year 3 or 4 and rebuilds it from the basics, at your child's pace.
Practising the CEB format
A portfolio of documents, long instructions, questions mixing several skills: your child learns to read the whole instruction and find the right document.
Organising revision
A simple plan until June, short and regular sessions, room to come back to what is still difficult. Your child knows what to work on and when.
Private tutoring in every CEB subject
Choose the subject where your child needs the most help: the coach works on it with them until June.
CEB holiday courses
During the Carnival and Easter holidays, five-day courses in small groups, 10 pupils at most, cover every CEB subject, with a printed summary and past papers. They are taught in French.
CEB preparation
We help your child prepare serenely for the CEB exam, by reviewing key subjects and familiarizing them with the format of the tests. The goal is to strengthen their knowledge and confidence to approach this important stage.

Past papers: the best practice
The Wallonia-Brussels Federation publishes the CEB test with its marking guidelines. Sitting it in real conditions is the best way to get used to its format: a portfolio of documents, long instructions, questions that combine several skills.
Our guide to the CEB tests explains where to find past papers and how to use them, year by year.

Your questions about CEB preparation
The certificat d’études de base (CEB) is the common external test that closes primary school in French-speaking schools of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. It assesses French, maths, science, and history and geography. Passing it gives access to the first common year of secondary school.
The tests take place over four mornings: Monday 21, Tuesday 22, Thursday 24 and Friday 25 June 2027. Results are sent to schools on Monday 28 June 2027.
From June 2027, pupils need at least 50% in each subject and an overall average of at least 60%. Until 2026, 50% in each part was enough. If your child does not reach this mark, the jury or the class council can still award the CEB based on their school record.
The CEB covers several years of learning: last-minute revision is not enough. A few sessions a week from the second term strengthen the basics without overload. If a gap appears earlier, it is best to tackle it straight away.
Private tutoring suits a child who needs regular support on their weak spots. Holiday courses offer an intensive review of every subject in a small group, taught in French. The two can be combined, and an educational advisor helps you choose.

Yes, it is the best practice there is. Past papers and their marking guidelines are published by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. We explain how to use them in our article CEB: past papers.
