Dutch, an exam subject like any other

In many programmes, such as economics, management, law or communication, Dutch is on the curriculum with its own exam, often written and oral. It counts towards your average just like your other courses.

The level required quickly goes beyond secondary school: reading a newspaper article, summarising a text, defending a point of view orally, mastering the vocabulary of your field.

The coach starts from your course notes, your own notes and the exam guidelines. They go over the grammar you are missing, then get you speaking in every session. Lessons fit around your timetable and your exam revision period.

Depending on your needs

What we work on in Dutch in higher education

Needs vary from one programme to another. The plan is built around your situation.

Passing the Dutch course

Grammar, course vocabulary, reading comprehension and writing: we prepare the exam format as much as the language.

Taking the oral exam

Presenting a topic, answering questions, holding a conversation without searching for words: fluency is built by speaking every week.

Studying in Dutch

Taking a Dutch-taught bachelor's degree in Flanders or Brussels, or preparing the language test required for enrolment: comprehension, writing and speaking.

Dutch in higher education: your questions

Yes. The coach works on your documents: the course notes, the texts covered in class, the exam guidelines and past exam questions if you have them. They train both the written and the oral parts.

Yes. The coach first checks what you still know, then goes back over the grammar and vocabulary basics you need for your course. The earlier you start in the term, the easier it is to catch up.

Yes. Preparation covers the test format as much as the language: listening and reading comprehension, writing and speaking. Check with your institution which test and which level are required.

From €40/h, like all private lessons in higher education. The number of sessions depends on your starting level and the deadline: your educational advisor sends you a quote, with no commitment.

As early as possible in the term. Speaking with ease is built by speaking every week: a few regular sessions prepare you better than a block just before the exam.

The course with Olivier was very good and helpful, even we had only sheduled 8 hours in order to prepare the exam he managed to go through the complex material and both explain and do exercises. Olivier knows the contents of Statistics by heart, and due to his good knowledge he is capable of explaining thoroughly the issues, he has a good teaching approach, demanding also input from the student, he can even explain the very tricky specialities of statistics and could also give good hints how to perform the exam in a good way, as we are still waiting for the result of the exam from University I can state that Noël felt much better prepared and secure. He did a large amount of excercises with Olivier. We are very happy that My Sherpa could organize this good teach and we can recommend him to any other family and student. Olivier is a friendly person, and besides hard working can be also good for a joke. Currently there are no further exams planned in that area, but should we ever be obliged to get support, we will contact My Sherpa, because there we know we get a good service, thanks again
