Requesting private lessons

From first contact to first lesson: how to make your request, how long it takes to organise the lessons, what they cost and how to pay for them.

There are two options: fill in the online request form (an educational advisor will then get back to you by email or by phone, as you prefer), or call us directly on 02 533 07 70.

A My Sherpa educational advisor gets in touch with you and analyses the student’s needs, by phone or during an educational assessment, at our offices or remotely.

They then suggest a programme suited to the goals to be reached and to your availability, select the matching coach and let you know the start date of the lessons.

Yes. You can mention it in the request form, then discuss it during the assessment: the educational advisor takes it into account to choose a coach suited to your child’s profile, and the coach receives practical advice to adapt the lessons.

Once the programme has been defined with you, your educational advisor selects the right coach for your request as quickly as possible. Organising the lessons usually takes 2 to 5 working days.

The price depends on the programme defined with you: your educational advisor sends you a costed proposal, with no commitment. As a guide, private lessons are offered from €35/hour in primary and secondary school, and from €40/hour in higher education and for adults. On top of this comes a registration fee of €75 per school year, paid once for the whole family (if paid from 15 May, it also covers the following school year).

To receive your proposal, get in touch with us or build your offer directly online at student.mysherpa.be.

Yes, payment can be spread over monthly instalments. Depending on the option, you pay online by Bancontact, by direct debit (SEPA) or by bank transfer.

My Sherpa then takes care of paying the coach: payments are secure and declared, and you can focus on the lessons.

The first three sessions serve as a trial period. If things don’t click with the coach during this period, you continue the programme with another coach from the team, at no extra cost.

The lessons

Lessons and coaches

Where and when lessons take place, how long sessions last and who the coaches giving them are.

Any day of the week, weekends included. We choose the coach based on the planned programme and the student’s availability.

At your home or at your workplace, across Belgium, or online. Other arrangements can be agreed with your educational advisor, for example at the coach’s home or in a public place such as a library.

The programme adapts to the student’s situation, goals and needs. We generally recommend sessions of 1.5 hours in primary school and 2 hours in secondary school, higher education and for adults: long enough to reach the goal of each session.

Our coaches come from a wide range of backgrounds: students, teachers, engineers, translators and interpreters, professionals from other sectors…

All of them are selected in a one-to-one interview on three criteria: their knowledge of the subject, their teaching skills and their personal qualities, to motivate the student and restore their confidence.

Yes. Lessons are always given in the student’s language of instruction: we organise lessons with Dutch-speaking coaches, and in other languages too, for example in English.

Yes, whether for school support, team work at university or a professional request. Form a group of at least two students with the same level and the same goals, then contact us: we set up a tailor-made programme.

During the programme

Along the way

An unforeseen absence, a house move, a coach who isn’t the right fit or a programme to change: what happens in each case.

The student’s motivation and well-being play a big part in the success of a programme. If, despite our precautions, the coach isn’t right for you, contact us during the first three sessions: your educational advisor will offer to continue with another coach from the team, at no extra cost.

Let the coach know as soon as possible, at least 24 hours in advance, and agree on a new date together. Ideally, the session is rescheduled within the same week, to keep the programme regular.

Otherwise, it can be made up later depending on the coach’s availability, in principle no later than one week after the end of the programme. A session cancelled less than 24 hours in advance, or missed without notice, remains payable.

Yes. If your coach can take on the new programme, your educational advisor arranges the change with them. If another coach is needed, My Sherpa takes care of it as quickly as possible, for a change fee of 10% of the amount of the remaining lessons (minimum €60).

If the move is planned before the lessons start, let us know: your advisor will choose a coach who can travel to both addresses.

If it happens during the programme, let us know as soon as possible. If your coach cannot travel to the new address, we reorganise the remaining lessons with another coach, for a change fee of 10% (minimum €60).

First try to agree on a new schedule with your coach. If that isn’t possible, contact us: we organise the remaining sessions with another coach from the team, for a change fee of 10% of the amount of the remaining lessons (minimum €60).

Yes, at any time: let your educational advisor know. A cancellation fee of 10% of the amount of the cancelled lessons is charged (minimum €60), and the rest is cancelled or refunded.

Some options cannot be cancelled, for example digital courses or a group lesson that has already started.
