When English becomes the language of your courses

In many programmes, part of the reading, course notes or lectures is in English. Secondary school English is enough to follow, rarely enough to read a scientific article quickly or defend a point of view orally.

Other students have a full English course, with a written and an oral exam, or must sit a language test before an Erasmus exchange.

The coach starts from your documents and your deadlines: the vocabulary of your field, the structure of academic writing, speaking. Sessions adapt to your timetable and revision period.

Depending on your needs

What we work on in English in higher education

Needs vary from one programme to another. The plan is built around your situation.

Following courses in English

Reading an article or course notes without stumbling over every sentence, taking notes, mastering the vocabulary of your field.

Passing the English exam

Grammar, writing, oral presentation and questions from the examiners: we prepare the exam format as much as the language.

Preparing a language test

The tests required for an Erasmus exchange or a master’s abroad: comprehension, writing and speaking, within the time allowed.

English in higher education: your questions

Yes. The coach then works on your documents: the course notes, the articles to read, past exam questions if you have them. The goal is to understand the material and be able to explain it in English.

Yes. Preparation covers the test format as much as the language: listening and reading comprehension, writing to a brief, speaking and time management. Check with your institution which test and which level are required.

From €40/h, like all private lessons in higher education. The number of sessions depends on your starting level and the deadline: your educational advisor sends you a quote, with no commitment.

As early as possible in the term. Speaking with ease is built by speaking every week: a few regular sessions prepare you better than a block just before the exam.

The course with Olivier was very good and helpful, even we had only sheduled 8 hours in order to prepare the exam he managed to go through the complex material and both explain and do exercises. Olivier knows the contents of Statistics by heart, and due to his good knowledge he is capable of explaining thoroughly the issues, he has a good teaching approach, demanding also input from the student, he can even explain the very tricky specialities of statistics and could also give good hints how to perform the exam in a good way, as we are still waiting for the result of the exam from University I can state that Noël felt much better prepared and secure. He did a large amount of excercises with Olivier. We are very happy that My Sherpa could organize this good teach and we can recommend him to any other family and student. Olivier is a friendly person, and besides hard working can be also good for a joke. Currently there are no further exams planned in that area, but should we ever be obliged to get support, we will contact My Sherpa, because there we know we get a good service, thanks again
