Private chemistry lessons
A subject where everything is connected: when the mole is not understood, nothing else is.
Mastering the mole, balancing a reaction, moving on without rote learning
In chemistry, a very small number of concepts underpin the whole curriculum: the mole, stoichiometry, balancing equations. As long as they are not solid, each new chapter seems arbitrary and gets learnt by heart, which holds up until the first unfamiliar exercise.
So the coach checks these foundations before moving on, even if the class is already well past them. It is a detour that saves time: once the mole is truly understood, the following chapters often unlock very quickly.
With their coach, the pupil reviews the structure of matter, learns to balance a reaction, masters stoichiometry, then tackles acids and bases, redox and organic chemistry.
What we work on in chemistry, at each level
A few basic concepts, then a curriculum that speeds up: here is what is at stake at each stage.
In years 1 and 2
States of matter, mixtures and pure substances, the first chemical changes.
In years 3 to 6
The atom and the periodic table, bonds, the mole and stoichiometry, acids and bases, redox, then organic chemistry in the final year.
In higher education
General and organic chemistry in the first years of medicine, pharmacy, science and civil engineering.

Chemistry lessons: your questions
With the mole and balancing equations. These two concepts underpin almost all the rest of the curriculum: as long as they are not solid, stoichiometry, solutions and organic chemistry remain procedures learnt by heart, which collapse as soon as the question changes.
No, and that is the costliest mistake. Organic chemistry rests on a small number of mechanisms that recombine; memorising reactions one by one takes growing effort for a result that keeps getting worse. The work focuses on the mechanisms.
Yes, in secondary school as well as in the first years of higher education. My Sherpa also offers dedicated preparation for the entrance exam in medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine.
